Joe Ab's Mules |
|
I enjoy the blackboard. I very
much appreciate what you are doing with this. Today's blackboard mentions
Mrs. Joe Ab Lankford. Joe was retired while I was still young. He quit
farming but kept his old pair of work mules. One year one of our peanut
threshing crew left for California right during the harvest. That left us
short one wagon. Some men fixed up a wagon. Somehow, they harnessed Joe
Ab's mules. They had not been worked for ten years. I was fifteen but the
only one available so they gave them to me. I would fight those wild mules
all day and cry all night. They finally settled down enough to get the job
done, but I have never liked mules since then. |
