Funeral services for Lila Margaret Upchurch were held February 3, 2004 at
Texas Banner Church of God with Rev. Jon Ewers and Rev. Randy Scott
officiating.
Margaret was born February 24, 1924 in Wetumka,
Oklahoma to Gid Summy and Goldie Haywood Summy and died January 31, 2004
in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents
and one brother, Ellis Summy.
She lived in the Texas Banner community and attended
Texas Banner Schools. On August 23, 1941 she married Warren Upchurch in
Dustin, Oklahoma and the couple made their home in the Texas Banner
Community.
In 1963, Mrs. Upchurch moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma
and there she worked for Midwest City schools as a cafeteria supervisor.
After retiring in 1983, the couple moved back to the area.
Mrs. Upchurch was involved in the Ladies Missionary
Society and was an active member of the First Church of God for 63 years.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, crocheting, reading her Bible and cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Warren Upchurch of the
home; one son, Phillip Upchurch and wife, Becky of Manchester, Missouri;
grandchildren, Michael Phillip Upchurch and Jeana of Manchester, Missouri
and David Upchurch, also of Manchester, Missouri; one brother Tommy Summy
and wife, Norma of Lamar, Oklahoma; three sisters, Wilma Lacy of
Holdenville, Oklahoma, Minnie Mae Rooker of Fairfield, California and
Selma Fitzhugh of Yeager, Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law, Doris Upchurch
of Holdenville, Oklahoma, Fern Loftis and her husband Theodore, also of
Holdenville, Oklahoma and Jeanie Summy of Irving, Texas; and several
nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Interment was at Wetumka Cemetery under the direction
of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville, Oklahoma.
