Tommy Ray Harwell passed away
Sunday, July 20, 2003 in Holdenville, Oklahoma at the age of 93. Ray was
born June 19, 1910 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to John Harwell and Maud Harding
Harwell. He attended Moss Public Schools and was a member of the Banner
Baptist Church in Horntown, Oklahoma. Ray was a lifetime Hughes County
resident and in 1931 he married his first wife, Sota Brown Harwell, she
preceded him in death on February 22, 1961. Ray married Dorthy Briscoe on
December 1, 1965 and the couple made their living farming and ranching in
Hughes County until their retirement in 1986. Preceding Ray in death were
his parents, his first wife, three great grandchildren and one sister,
Muriel Ross.
Survivors are his wife,
Dorthy Harwell of the home; children Joyce Cherry and her husband, Ralph,
of Mead, Oklahoma; Stepchildren, Ima Lee Lankford and her husband, Homer
of Holdenville, Oklahoma; stepchildren David Hawley of Ocean Springs,
Mississippi, Mary Burke of Krebs, Oklahoma, Thomas Edwin Hawley of Mounds,
Oklahoma, Myrta Kay Riddle of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Robert James Hawley
of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother, Roy Harwell of Duncan, Oklahoma and sister,
Ruth Wallis of Castro Valley, California. Also surviving are twenty-one
grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and fifteen great-great
grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday,
July 23, 2003 at Hudson-Phillips Chapel. Reverend Revel Johnson and
Reverend Ron Cherry officiated. Pallbearers were Dale Cherry, Kenneth
Woodrum, Mike Brewer, Joe Freeman, Jack Babb and Jim Alford. Burial
followed the service at Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of
Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville, Oklahoma. |
