Services for
Holdenville resident Loran Pettit were held 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 6,
2005 at the Holdenville First Baptist Church. Reverend Roger McElroy
officiated. Interment followed at the Holdenville Cemetery under the
direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jon Faster, Jeffrey Foster, Joshua
Duncan, Garrett Rhynes, Richard Nolen, and Mike Cowart.
Loran passed away July 3, 2005 in Glenpool, Oklahoma,
at the age of 84. He was born September 2, 1920 in Lamar, Oklahoma to
Robert A. and Goldie "Marshall" Pettit. He was raised in Hughes County
and attended Moss schools and graduated there.
He proudly served his country during World War II in
the 836th Army Aviation Engineer unit in the South Pacific.
He married Imogene Lipe on April 16, 1946 in Holdenville, Oklahoma.
After his military service he worked as a parts man for Smith Auto and
Bob Stafford Motors. He worked for Kingsbury Homes as a truck mechanic
from which he later retired.
Loran was very dedicated to his church service. He was
a treasurer for the Banner Baptist Church in Horntown for several
years. Loran taught Sunday School at Holdenville First Baptist for
over ten years and was an usher for many years.
Loran was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,
Imogene Lipe Pettit; and one sister; Marcella Hope Whittemore.
He is survived by his children; Judith Ann Foster and
husband Bruce of Holdenville, Oklahoma; and Beverly Pettit Duncan and
husband Jerry of Jenks, Oklahoma; his grandchildren Jon Foster and wife
Taloa of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jeffrey Foster of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jenni
Rhynes and husband Garrett of Ada, Oklahoma and Joshua Travis Duncan of
Ada, Oklahoma; and one great-granddaughter Jayden Foster of Edmond,
Oklahoma. Also one brother, Robert A. "Tommy" Pettit and wife Reba; and
many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. |
