John Dewey Kibby passed away at the age of 83, on Friday morning
December 24, 2004, at his home in Gerty, Oklahoma.
John was born to Mary Lula (Gentry) Kibby and John D.
Kibby Sr., in Yeager, Oklahoma, and was brought up and attended
school in Yeager, Oklahoma. He married Addie Hulsey, Holdenville,
Oklahoma on November 9, 1940; they lived in the Horntown-Moss
community for many years and moved to Holdenville in 1969. Addie
passed away after thirty-six years of marriage, on November 17,
1976.
John married Lee (Snider) Thornton at Gerty, Oklahoma,
on September 17, 1977. They made their home in the Gerty area. John
worked in the oilfields in this area and all over the state for over
40 years as a roughneck, driller and pusher, retiring in 1983 and
continuing his love of farming and ranching, until just two years
ago.
He was preceded in death by:

Five brothers: Leonard Kibby, Billy Kibby, Frank Kibby and two
infants
Three Sisters: Ethel Marie Price, Thelma Brooks, and Cora Fisher
He is survived by:

Jean Welch and husband David of Owasso, Oklahoma
Funeral services were at the First Baptist Church at
2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2004, and John was laid to rest in
the Holdenville Cemetery. Rev David Welch officiated, assisted by
James Hamilton. Pallbearers were grandsons: Wayne Kibby, Shawn
Kibby, Phillip Kibby, Gene Weber, John Weber, Jerry Weber, Greg
Burkhead, Richard Hamilton, Landon Davis, Patrick Davis, Marty
Sells, Keith Thornton and John Thornton. Honorary pallbearers were
Bob Sherry, Steve Herndon, Audie Sanford, Babe Meadows, and Darrell
Smith.
