Services for Jewel Rowland, 97, Holdenville, Oklahoma
were at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 5, 2002, at Banner Baptist Church at
Horntown, Oklahoma. The Rev. Billy Dale Rowland officiated.
She was born August 27, 1904, at Yell County, Arkansas
to Charlie and Lela (Foster) Wilson and died May 2, 2002, at Holdenville,
Ok. at the age of 97.
Until the age of nine, she lived in Yell County, Arkansas.
The family came to Hughes County, where she had remained a resident until
her death. On December 26, 1920, the 16 year old was married to
Charlie Oliver Rowland in the Pecan Grove community and they made their
home in the Horntown area.
She was a
charter member of Banner Baptist Church at Horntown, Oklahoma. She worked
at Moss School Cafeteria, Holdenville General Hospital and Seamproof
garment factory. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and quilting.
Mrs. Rowland was preceded in death by her parents,
Charlie and Lela Wilson, husband, Charlie Rowland in 1970, a daughter, Jean Rowland
in 1960, an infant daughter, one brother, Willard Wilson, one sister, Faye
Wilson and one daughter-in-law, Esta Lee Rowland in April, 2002.
Survivors include her children, Alton Rowland, Mt.
Pleasant, Texas, and Dale Rowland and his wife Jean, of Claremore, Oklahoma, Laverne
Rogers and her husband Troy, of Holdenville, Oklahoma, and LaDean Corley
and her husband, Morris of Carrollton, Texas; 12
grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Rowland's grandsons served as honorary
pallbearers. Interment was in Holdenville Cemetery under the
direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville, Oklahoma.
