services for James Alonzo Carroll were held March 4, 2016 at the
Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home Chapel in Wetumka with Dr. Reed Lynn
James was born Oct. 21, 1940 in Lamar to Burnis Carroll and Minnie (Mahair)
Carroll and died March 2, 2016 at his home near Wetumka at the age of
75. Raised in Hughes County, he attended Moss School where he was
a 1955 graduate.
In 1963, he married Helen Smith and they continued to make Hughes County
their home. James owned and operated Carroll’s Feed Store in Wetumka and
was a lifelong rancher. He dearly loved raising Hereford cattle.
Also, he was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Wetumka.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home; a sister, Karen Ingram
and husband Randy of Clarksville, TN.; a brother, Steve Carroll and wife
Rita of Shawnee; a brother-in-law, Darrell Smith and wife Glenda of
Holdenville; a sister-in-law, LaVerne Roberts of Grand Prairie, TX.;
along with several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers were Arlie Nolen, Jim Nolen, Charles Gann, Milton Johnson,
Jack Rupe and Baine Sams. Honorary pallbearers were John Freeman, Dale
Milam, Joe Freeman, Darrell Smith, Randy Ingram and Jim Stapp.
Interment followed services in the Lamar Cemetery under the direction of
Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka.
