Homer Clell Lankford,
age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, August 5, 2006, at
St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was born in Seminole County on September 17, 1919 to
Elmer Oscar and Bonnie Rachel "Myers" Lankford. Homer attended
school at Jackson, Holdenville, New Model, Spaulding and was
valedictorian of his graduating class at Moss in 1937. After
graduation he attended Draughn Business School in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma.
Homer married the love of his life, Ima Lee Morris, on
May 24, 1941 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. He loved making a living as
a farmer and rancher, but after many years of farming he worked and
retired as an oilfield pumper. He was also an excellent carpenter.
Homer was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church
where he taught the Adult Sunday School class for many years. He
loved Hereford cows, gospel singing, family gatherings, and watching his
grandchildren in school activities and ballgames. Homer was rich
with the love of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two
granddaughters, Regina Dawn Stubblefield and Angela Toni Lankford.
Homer will be missed dearly, for he was not only a
wonderful husband, daddy, grandpa and great grandpa, he was and will
always be his family's hero.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ima Lee
Lankford; three children, Betty Miller, Jim and his wife Roberta
Lankford, and Dr. Bill and his wife Cathy Lankford, all of Holdenville,
Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, DeWayne Lankford of Newalla, Oklahoma,
Ramona Hice, Ranea Lantz, Rhonda Mahurin, Cherina Lankford, Gus
Lankford, and Woodrow Clell Lankford all of Holdenville, Oklahoma,
Chenell Lankford of Fresno, California; ten great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild due in February. Also one brother, Joe and
his wife Bernice Lankford of Pomona, California; one nephew, Gary
Lankford; one niece, Anita Ward; one sister-in-law, Joyce and her
husband Ralph Cherry of Mead, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday,
August 8, at the First Baptist Church in Holdenville, Oklahoma with Rev.
Revel Johnson and Robby Lee officiating. Interment followed at
Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral
Home.
Pallbearers were Jim Lankford, DeWayne Lankford,
Charlie Harris, Lynn Lantz, Gary Mahurin, Woodrow Lankford, and Bill
Lankford, Honorary pallbearers were Brayden Lankford, Blaine Lankford,
Phillip Hice Jr., Lynden Lantz, Derrick Mahurin, Dalton Mahurin, Derek
Logan, Ray Steele, Robert Smith and John Ring.
