Funeral services for
Holdenville resident, Ferne Loftis, were held 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 24,
2004 at the First Church of God in Holdenville. Burial followed the
services at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips
Funeral Home. Mrs. Loftis passed away at Heritage Village Nursing Center
on Thursday, April 22, 2004 at the age of 88. Pall bearers were Ernest
Moore, Tommy Summy, Glenn Paslay, Mike Henry, Clarke Fitzhugh, Johnny Babb
and Kenneth Hughes.
Ferne Loftis was born June 5, 1915 in Lamar, Oklahoma
to Walter Clarence Upchurch and Blanche Edwards Upchurch. She was raised
in the Moss and Texas Banner areas and attended Moss Schools. On Ferne's
17th. birthday she married Theodore Loftis in Lamar, Oklahoma. The couple
made their home in the Lamar area for several years. Ferne became a
Christian at the Texas Banner Church of God at the age of 18 and has
remained a member of the Church of God all her life. After moving to
Holdenville, Ferne worked for several years at J.C. Penney's , McLellan's
and the Dollar Store. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, textile painting,
embroidery, camping and playing piano and singing at her church. Her
parents, one son, Robert Loftis, and one brother and one sister preceded
Ferne in death.
Survivors include her husband: Theodore Loftis, of the
home; one daughter in law: Melba Loftis of Holdenville, Oklahoma;
Granddaughters: Barbara Fowler and husband, Pat, of Edmond, Oklahoma;
Roberta Jeffrey and husband, Jay, of Holdenville, Oklahoma; Joy Niles and
husband, Matt, of Harlingen, Texas; Great grandchildren: Jeremy Fowler,
Melissa Fowler, Jason Jeffrey, Beth Jeffrey, Brenda Jeffrey and Jake
Niles; Brother: Warren Upchurch of Holdenville; Sister: Doris Upchurch of
Holdenville, Oklahoma; Brother in law: Leon Lankford and wife, Helen, of
Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sister in law: Louise Boyd of Okmulgee, Oklahoma.
Numerous other relatives and many friends also survive
