Douglas “Doug” Lynn Smith passed away on May 20, 2011 at his home in Realitos, Texas at the age of 68. Doug was born on March 14, 1943 in Lamar, Oklahoma to Leroy and Sylvia (Goodson) Smith. Doug grew up in Lamar, Oklahoma. He
attended Lamar Elementary and later attended Moss High School where he
graduated with the Class of 1961. Doug was President of his graduating
class and was planning to return “home” this week for his 50th year high
school class reunion. During Doug’s heydays he began his rodeo career where he rode broncos and steer wrestled. Doug was also a cutting horse competitor. Some people would call him a farrier but his nephew Kevin said “he was a horseshoer”. Doug “shoed” at many racetrack's across the country in states such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, Texas and Oklahoma. Doug is preceded in death by his father who passed away May 31, 2005 and grandchildren, Raelynn Smith, Russell Lee Smith and Sawyer Levi Smith. Doug is survived by his mother, Sylvia (Goodson) Smith of Wewoka; sons, Lynn Smith and wife Kristy of Holdenville and Bryan Smith and wife DeAnn of Holdenville; grandchildren, Angel, BryAnn and Cole Smith of Holdenville; brother, Donald “Don” Smith of Henryetta; sisters, Connie Bennett and husband Bruce of Ada, and Marilyn Kincade and husband Rowdy of Wewoka; nieces and nephews, Michelle (Smith) and Terry Don West of Henryetta; Kathy (Smith) and Ken Bailey of Okmulgee; Brandi (Bennett) and Brian Adams of Seminole; Keith Kincade of Wewoka, Kevin and Laura Kincade of Seminole, and Kerry and Jennifer Kincade of Wewoka and numerous grand-nieces and nephews and friends. Pallbears were John Stirman, Gary Brinlee, Jackie Brown, Buddy Keese, Gary Shields & Bob Sherry. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Whitton, Bucky Pope, Bud McCoy, Don Wakely and Dean Goforth. Graveside services were held at Lamar Cemetery on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville. James Branscum will be officiating. |
