Clara Fausta Hawthorne
October 13, 1920 - December 27, 2009

   Clara Fausta Hawthorne was born on October 13, 1920 in Ragtown, Oklahoma. She passed away on December 27, 2009 at the Holdenville General Hospital in Holdenville, Oklahoma.

   She is a graduate of Moss High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Central State College in Ada, Oklahoma.

   Miss Hawthorne dedicated her life to teaching -- her career spanned 50 years. She began teaching at her alma mater, Moss High School, where she taught grades five through twelve. Following that she taught multiple grade levels in the Spaulding, Atwood, Keota, and New Lima, Oklahoma schools systems.

   Ms. Hawthorne was a long time resident of Holdenville. She was an active member of the Capitol Heights  Missionary Baptist Church where she regularly taught Sunday School until health issues intervened.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Bessie Hawthorne; a sister, Ava Hawthorne Lee; a brother, James Hawthorne; and two nieces, Maxine Lee Bottoms and Judy Hawthorne.

   She is survived by her sister-in-law, Myrtis Hawthorne of Checotah; a niece, LaVaughen Lee Bankston of Fort Worth, Texas; two nephews, Mike Hawthorne of Checotah, and Gerald Bottoms of Cedar Hill, Texas; and a dear friend, Velma Lewis of Holdenville. She is also survived by three great nephews, two great nieces, three great-great nephews and five great-great nieces.

   Services were held on Wednesday, December 30th, at the Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Holdenville with Pastor Jim Crawford officiating. Internment followed at the Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of the Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Capitol Heights Missionary Church in Holdenville.
