Cecil Turner, age 87, a Holdenville resident, passed away in the Unity
Heath Care Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma on October 25, 2002. He was born
February 22, 1915, in Cookville, Texas, to Knox and Fannie Parker Turner.
Cecil was a farmer and rural mail carrier for 28 years.
He married Reva Smith at Horntown, Oklahoma, on August 26, 1937. Cecil was
raised in the Ragtown and Horntown communities and
graduated from
Moss School. He farmed and ranched in the Horntown area from 1937 and
moved to Holdenville in 1984. He had served as a Deacon at the Banner
Baptist Church. Cecil enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the
Oklahoma Sooners.
His parents and three brothers, E. W. Turner, Floyd
Turner, and Curtis Turner, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Reva, of the home; one son,
Jerry, and his wife, Ellen, Tyler, Texas; one daughter, Sue, and her
husband, Bobby Dean, of Okemah; two brothers, Burley Turner of Holdenville
and Harry Turner of Ardmore; four grandchildren, Tony Dean and wife,
Monica, of Okemah, Mark Dean and wife, Deborah, of Okemah, Kristel Bonner
and husband, Jeff, of Arp, Texas, Blayne Turner of Austin, Texas; five
great‑grandchildren, Chance Dean, Seth Dean, Slater Bonner, Jarret Bonner,
and Turner Dean.
Services were held at Banner Baptist Church in Horntown
on Monday, October 28, 2002, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Steve Cline and
Terrell Holland officiating. Burial was in the Holdenville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tony Dean, Mark Dean, Blayne Turner,
Bobby Turner, Dale Turner, Bruce Turner, Jim Turner, Jackie Brown, Mark
Brown, and Richard Nolen. Honorary pallbearers were Chance Dean, Seth
Dean, Slater Bonner, Jarret Bonner, and Turner Dean. |
