Funeral services for Holdenville
resident, Burley Turner, 93, were held 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 21, 2007
at Banner Baptist Church in Horntown with Reverend Jerry Summy
officiating. Burial followed the service at Holdenville Cemetery under
the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Burley Turner was born November 16, 1913 in Ragtown,
Oklahoma to John Knox Turner and Fannie Parker Turner. He passed away in
Holdenville on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Burley was raised in the Moss
and Horntown areas and spent some time in Texas.
He attended school at Moss where he played baseball.
Burley married Mae Madden in Tulare, California on May
1, 1937 and the couple raised their family on the farm in Hughes County.
He was a long time member of Banner Baptist Church and worked on the
family ranch. He was known for custom hay baling all around Hughes
County. Burley enjoyed hunting and was most relaxed with a fishing pole
in the water. He loved to play “Moon” and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Burley was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, in
August 2000, his parents, and four brothers: Cecil, E.W., Curtis and
Floyd Turner. Surviving are three children and their spouses: Dale and
Kathryn Turner of Holdenville, Jean Grimm of Yukon, and Linda and Vernon
Harmon of Broken Arrow; three grandchildren: Tammy Griffin of
Holdenville, Shelley Phelps of Bixby, and Toni Wright of Pottsboro,
Texas; and one brother, Harry Turner of Holdenville. Burley also leaves
seven great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. |
